Il Tiglio

A Quick Trip to Le Marche to sample the extraordinary dishes from Chef Enrico

Set high in the Sibillini mountains in the beautiful little hamlet of Isola San Biagio, Montemonaco in Le Marche, you will find Il Tiglio, risen after 3 years away at the Adriatic coast like a phoenix from the flames – or in this case, the earthquakes of 2016. Everyone is so excited that he’s back home!

Il Tiglio
Chef Enrico Mazzaroni.

Chef Enrico, innovative, ingenious and inventive as well as making you feel like you are about to dine at your best friends’ home with his relaxed and friendly manner, in our opinion, produces meals that are easily of Michelin Star standard.

Beautiful copper door.
The stylish interior.

Opening the unassuming door reveals a super-stylish yet rustic, cool interior.
We walked through to the shaded farm courtyard to our table with gorgeous views of the mountains.

Rustic and beautiful courtyard eating.

Once we sat down we were welcomed to Il Tiglio with a celebration glass of Prosecco.

Il Tiglio
Welcome Prosecco.

Soon we were wowed by the selection of five beautifully presented appetisers. Each bite a taste sensation.

The Appetisers…

il Tiglio
A basket of oyster shells with a stunning mix of chopped oyster, celery and cream of rice.
Il Tiglio
A perfect sphere encasing a liquid parmesan centre on a confiture of passion fruit.
Il Tiglio
‘Fake’ truffles covered in cacao with a core of cream of porcini mushroom.
Il Tiglio
A mouthwatering bite of lardo wrapped around a toasted almond – served on a rock, no less!
Baby tarts filled with cream of onion. Simply delicious!
Homemade warm bread
I haven’t even mentioned the homemade breads – still warm from the oven.

Once we’d enjoyed the delightful appetisers, it was time for the four fabulous Antipasti – we hadn’t even reached the primi courses yet! These were served with a lovely local white wine.

The Antipasti …

Tartar of beef with a egg and parmesan disc and lavender mayo.
Poached egg and greens in the lightest, crispiest tempura topped with soft baby lettuce leaves for contrast. Divine combo!
I have no idea what Enrico does to the carrots, but these are the BEST carrots we have ever tasted! Topped with fish roe and a drizzle of creamed potato.
Even if you are not a fan of porcini mushrooms, this was a taste explosion and utterly divine!

Not content to serve just one primo, we were spoilt with two delicious pasta dishes. At this point, we changed to a delicious local red wine to complement the next dishes …

The Primi

Handmade tortellini filled with wild boar and an amazing essence of pine jus.
Fresh Chitarra pasta made from local grains with a ragù of hare and creamed potato.

Once we had thoroughly enjoyed the primi, we were treated to the tenderest piece of lamb on a bed of freshly foraged wild greens and a carrot mayo …

Il Secondo

Beautiful lamb on a bed of local wild greens and a drop of carrot mayo.

We were definitely feeling full by this stage, but Enrico didn’t stop wowing us with his inventive creations – next up, a light dessert…

Il Dolce

Sublime taste sensation! Lemon foam sorbet with celery drops. It was truly superb!

After all we had enjoyed it was time for coffee and probably a little lie down!

Just loved the sugar bowl!

However, Il Tiglio had one more surprise up their sleeve and served us up delicious little apple treats glazed in fruits of the forest beautifully presented on silver branches. – another taste sensation to finish our amazing meal!

Little globes of cooked apple, glazed in fruits of the forest.

You will find Il Tiglio at Località Isola San Biagio, Montemonaco (AP) – put the name in Google maps and it will take you there! There’s a car parking area for the restaurant and Agriturismo across the road next to the building.
