Blessing! All In A Gusto Wine Tours Day!

We get enquiries sometimes that cause us to do a double-take!

This year we had a request from a very nice man from the States asking if we could organise a blessing for him & his fiancé while they were on a wine tour with us.

He wanted to surprise her with a little chapel blessing in honour of their forthcoming wedding in a small, out the way place, preferably with a view…..  Could we rise to the occasion?

At first we didn’t think it would be possible – this is Italy, after all, the home of the beloved ‘Bureaucracy’ !  But we had a think, and suddenly there was a vision in front of our eyes of the perfect place …. but could we make it work?

Several phone calls and meetings & running around later we had the outline of a plan and we set the wheels in motion.

On the day we arranged a very romantic and special day for the couple.  They had a couple of friends who joined them just for the ‘special event’ and the fabulous lunch afterwards.

In fact, those friends drove our guests from Rome to the meeting point just outside of Montefalco!  Good friends, I think.

Leading up to the Blessing…

The first place we visited was a tiny garage cantina just outside of Bevagna where the whole family – Mum, Dad, Son, Grandma and Grandpa and the pets all come and join in the chat while you sample their excellent wines!  You are in a barrel room so small that you could literally reach back and touch the barrels from where you are sitting!

Then it was onto one of our favourite wineries where we had arranged for the couple to have their wine tasting IN a big wine barrel!

Then we made our way to the Special Event, the fiancé did know something was going on, but not exactly what was in store.  The friends joined us at the little chapel.

We’d arranged for a bouquet for the fiancé to be waiting at the chapel and she was delighted and a little shocked to receive it!

The local priest was there waiting too and he led us all into the tiny chapel and once we were all settled down, gave a wonderful blessing speech to the couple.

The sun shone down and the soon to be bride was very happy indeed with the surprise!  The chapel is up in the Umbrian hills and just happens to be opposite the lovely cantina we’d just visited!

Lunch was in a hidden away hill-side Agriturismo with the most stunning views across the Umbrian countryside looking out over Assisi and the Vale of Spoleto.

After a truly memorable lunch the chef surprised the couple with a celebration cake with a glass of Prosecco.

After we had said goodbye to the couple’s friends, we made our way to the last pretty cantina of the day and the weather was so lovely they were able to sit outside and enjoy the lovely views while sipping their Montefalco wines!

It was a super day with super people and we wish them both health and happiness in their lives together.
