A Very Personal Post … From a guest post on Gloria’s ‘At Home In Tuscany’ Dec 2010

At Home In Tuscany  Thanks to Gloria for giving me the opportunity to write from the heart! Gloria asked me to write a post  for a series about what it means to be ‘home’…. here’s my take on it ……. Home Is Where Your Heart Is. I’ve been following this wonderful series of Guests Posts on Gloria’s pages, and thought that everything had been said that I would want to say myself. However….. Home for me is Umbria, but that is just a generality, the status quo.  I’m here because I love it and choose to be here, but it wasn’t...

Forward thinking by Samuele of L’Antico Forziere, Umbria

A GOOD DAY! A few months ago I got an email from Samuele of L’Antico Forziere near Deruta, Umbria completely out of the blue, I might add! He had been to the Umbrian tourist board to pick up some maps of Umbria as he gives them out to his hotel guests.  The tourist board informed him that they were no longer going to print or supply these maps. So, Samuele thought, Ok – I’ll design my own! He contacted me and asked if we would be interested in advertising Gusto Wine Tours on his map.  He had thought carefully about...

New Occasional Feature – The Wineries (we know) of Umbria…..

I wrote this back in 2010, but I’d like to include it here and say that this is the start of our local Umbrian Wineries features! We need to introduce everyone to the delights of Cantina Tabarrini, they are, to our minds and taste, one of the best, most innovative,  local producers Umbria has to offer. The wine-maker is the owner – Giampaolo, he, together with his wife Federica form a formidable team.  A lot of the cantine (wineries)  stick with traditional methods and don’t get me wrong,  make the most fabulous wines – however,  Giampaolo breaks with tradition and innovates,...

Gusto Wine Tours and the story of the slightly mad winemaker!

One of the perks of our business is that we never stop trying to find new cantine (wineries) to add to our growing list of artisan wine-makers. The winemakers are real characters and each one brings something a little different to the winemaking process.  Each one has their own ideas and their own quirks that make each wine from each cantina just that little bit diverse, a little different from the next. We came across a cantina a couple of years ago, right in the heart of the Massa Martana hills and we made an appointment to meet the owner/winemaker...

Emilia Romagna & Tuscany Sangiovese Tasting – 27th March 2013.

I know, I know!  It’s not about Umbria – but it is about WINE!  Italian wine at that!  So, it goes in! If you’re close to Bologna on Wednesday 27th March, head towards the nearby Regionale Enoteca Emilia Romagna, south of Bologna.  You will need to reserve a spot, so here’s where I found the information: On the link for Italian Wines And Food, you will find an email address and telephone number along with a map of where the event will be held. Taste 6 Sangiovese wines from 2 different cantine (wineries) One from Emilia Romagna and one from Tuscany – Podere La Berta & Fattoria...
